Twelfth Night – A Musical Journey By Candlelight With Alex Wilson – Sold Out

On the Last Day of Christmas, we invite you to join pianist Alex Wilson on a musical tour through the songs and folk traditions of Europe at Christmastime.  We will explore the Christmas story and revel in the significance of Epiphany; we will sing, bake and dance our way through nearly 300 years of musical storytelling.

Our journey features traditional celebrations from the UK to Romania, taking in Italy, Denmark and everywhere in between.  We will hear new music by Sadie Harrison based on beautiful seasonal melodies from Ukraine, and an intimate retelling of the Christmas story using traditional French carols.

Poignant, simple melodies and lively, celebratory sound worlds, shining light on beautiful music that deserves to be heard.  This is Christmastide described in soft, delicate tones – without sleigh bells and tinsel but full of discovery, familiarity and warmth.

Hot drink included in the ticket price – bar open from 7pm!

Alex Wilson

Alex Wilson is a musician with a passion for the unusual, new and unexplored: a versatile pianist with interests ranging from cutting edge new music to fascinating repertoire by forgotten composers. Alex is a former British Contemporary Piano Competition finalist, Park Lane Group Young Artist and performer of new music across Britain and Europe as soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. His self-curated tour of music by the lost composers of World War One has achieved large audiences and received critical praise. Alex’s debut solo CD – a recording of works by WW1 composer F.S.Kelly – is due for release in early 2020.

Alex directs, manages and performs with the Dr K. Sextet, curated the inaugural Cheltenham Music Festival Composer Academy and founded the music and visual arts collaboration ‘The Pierrot Project’. Alex believes strongly in taking professional, ambitious music projects out of the big cities, and is currently working to develop the musical scene across the south-west, with artists including Jade Gall (saxophone), Ruth Molins (flute), Claudia Alvarez Calderon (soprano) and Trio Exe. Alex teaches piano at Colyton Grammar School.

Alex studied for a music degree at York University, and graduated from the Royal College of Music with a MA (distinction) in piano performance in 2011, following studies with Andrew Ball.
