Lunchtime Lecture – Tools of the Trade (DEMH Trust Collection)
Dr David Radstone, Chair of the Devon & Exeter Medical Heritage Trust and a Curator of the medical collection, will take you through some of the fascinating objects in the museum and the people who used them.
The DEMH Trust Medical Collection houses around 12,000 objects of old medical equipment and memorabilia, displayed (and sometimes handled!) at St Nicholas Priory. The objects range from Roman scalpels to a WWII portable anaesthetic machine, from Georgian medicine chests to prescription books, paintings, photographs and other medical curiosities, and everything in-between!
Professor David Radstone was a solicitor, then a doctor, and then a Professor of Oncology. He is now one of Exeter’s Red Coat Guides, a volunteer at St Nicholas Priory, and a curator of the DEMHT medical museum.
