Talk and Tour: Cloisters and Convents in medieval Exeter
James Clark talks about Exeter’s monastic history and John Allan takes guests on a tour of the building.
John Allan is the Cathedral Archaeologist and Archaeological Adviser to Glastonbury Abbey. He excavated on the site of the Priory church in 1983 and wrote the 1990s guidebook to the abbey.
James Clark is Professor of History at the University of Exeter. His research concentrates on cultural and religious life in England at the end of the Middle Ages and during the Reformation. He has published widely on these themes and is currently completing a new history of the dissolution of the monasteries. A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, he is regular contributor on historical topics to TV, radio and new media and has written for BBC History, History Today and for various outlets online.
