Sunday Special: Music at the Priory #allswell

We are pleased to welcome back Melanie Mehta and Daphne Murphy on Sunday, 14th November, for some wonderful music in the Great Hall! The Programme is called “We will remember them”,  suitable for the time of year.

Melanie Mehta has sung in large and small choirs/ensembles with tours in the UK and abroad.  Her solo Opera experience includes Adele (Die Fledermaus), Mother (Hansel & Gretel) and Witch (Macbeth) and has covered roles for Staircase Opera in Devon.  Her solo oratorio experience includes Vivaldi Gloria, Haydn Nelson Mass, and the Requiems of Brahms, Mozart and Verdi.  Planned concerts include two lunchtime concerts of duets at Glenorchy Church in Exmouth, a lunchtime concert at Wesley Chapel in London and a concert of Rhine related music in Bromley, Kent.

Daphne Murphy started accompanying singers around age 14 and still loves doing so.  She studied at the Welsh College of Music & Drama when it was starting in Cardiff Castle which was great fun.  She then trained as a teacher and taught in Primary Schools and a prison.  She’s played for many Choirs, Theatre groups and, since retirement, is playing for exams and diplomas.

This will be the third time that Melanie and Daphne have worked together, and they are looking forward to continuing the association and exploring more repertoire together.

Do come and join us to soak up the history of Exeter’s oldest building and this quiet corner of the city.

Founded by William the Conqueror in 1087, St Nicholas Priory was home to Benedictine monks for over 400 years and is the oldest building in Exeter. In 1536, like other monasteries, it was closed and the remains became the home of wealthy Tudor merchants.
